Key Info For Your Upcoming Tax Filing...Government Shutdown...and More

Happy New Year...we hope your 2019 is off to a great start! Below you'll find important info to assist you in prepping for your 2018 tax year filing...
Quick Note to Current Tax Clients:
We’ll be emailing your Tax Checklist (for 2018 tax year) next Wednesday, January 16. This will include all information and forms that you’ll need for your tax return preparation, as well as the different methods you can use to provide your paperwork.

**Discard all previous versions of Checklists & Worksheets you may have. We’re updating all forms to reflect Tax Reform & other changes.

When this information is sent to you, we suggest bookmarking the page, so you always have access to the most recent forms available (things are constantly changing…we’re moving with these changes…we want to make sure you’re always up-to-date!).

Tax Reform & 2018 Tax Returns:
California and many other states haven’t conformed to the IRS tax reform changes, further complicating tax returns due to the expanded differences between federal and state law.

**The main takeaway for you is to just continue providing information as you always have. Don’t provide less info because you think tax reform eliminated some of your deductions. Use our checklist and worksheets. We’ll sort through your info and apply things correctly to ensure maximum deductions are taken!

Government Shutdown:
We’ve received several questions about the impact of the government shutdown on taxes. Shutdowns are fairly common and generally don’t have a major impact on tax filings.

The IRS has already indicated the filing season will begin on Monday, January 28. All refunds will be processed as usual!

During the shutdown, IRS phone lines are unavailable for consumer questions, among several other resources. So, please feel free to contact us with those questions…we’re here to help!

File Early; Pay Later:
Just because you file in February, doesn’t mean you have to pay in February. Remember, you don’t have to pay your taxes due until April 15th, regardless of when you file.

So, we always recommend filing early to get a grip on your taxes due, that way you have time to plan before your payment needs to be made by April 15.

Benefits You’ll Love:
