It pays to stay on top of your finances. This includes the following, as well as any added items that may apply to your situation:

• Insurances (medical, dental, auto, home, life, disability, long-term care, etc.) – review deductibles & corresponding premiums for optimization. Ensure all items & people are covered properly (add new dependents, remove those who are no longer dependents).
• Will/Trust – review to ensure staying updated with life changes (births/deaths, geographical moves, financial changes, etc.).
• Investments – rebalance and make changes according to your changing age & portfolio specifics. Adjust contribution and/or distribution amounts as needed.
• Budget – adjust with cost increases and move money accordingly. Plan for irregular expense and maintenance items. Make changes to allocate funds toward those things most important to you.
• Purpose – slow down to think about the why’s in your financial life. Why are you working like you do? Why are you putting away money for retirement? Why are you buying this or investing in that? How do these things translate to purpose in your life? Ask why!

 
It’s easier to review these items periodically and proactively than it is to reactively fix things you could’ve prevented. Hopefully the above details knock a few more items off your list to keep your finances updated with life’s changes.
