What is the new IRS policy on tax refunds?

On March 25, 2025, an executive order was signed to advance the transition to fully electronic federal payments, including phasing out paper tax refund checks beginning 9/30/2025.
 
This means while taxpayers will file tax returns as usual, refund delivery methods will move to direct deposits for the most part, with the option to receive refunds via certain mobile apps and prepaid debit cards with routing & account numbers. At this time, our software will only allow the direct deposit method for refunds.
 
So for all tax filings beyond 9/30/2025, we’ll be asking for banking info in order to direct tax refunds.
